Osama to declare war on Musharraf: Web site

CAIRO: Osama bin Laden will release a new message soon declaring war on Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf, Al Qaeda announced on Thursday.

The announcement of the upcoming message came as Al Qaeda released a new video in which bin Laden`s deputy boasted that the United States was being defeated in Afghanistan, Iraq and other fronts.

MADRID: Two Pakistani men were arrested in Spain on Thursday accused of channelling 1 million euros ($1.40 million) to Islamist militants, Spanish police said.

Anar Muhammad Shan and Preces Mehmood Sandhu used money from drug trafficking to fund radical groups in Spain and abroad, a police statement said.

US pledges to continue work closely with Pakistan

WASHINGTON: The United States dismissed a call by Al-Qaeda chief Osama bin Laden for holy war against Pervez Musharraf's government and pledged to work closely with ally Pakistan to confront extremism.

Bomb attack in Kabul kills French soldier; 75 Taliban in fighting

KABUL: A bomb attack Friday against a convoy of French troops killed one soldier and injured many Afghans near the blast, while heavy fighting in southern Afghanistan killed about 75 Taliban fighters and six civilians, officials said.

The attack in western Kabul blew the windows out of a civilian bus and set at least one vehicle on fire. At least six civilians were in serious condition, and many others had lesser injuries, said Zormai Rasa, the local police chief.

Afghan President Hamid Karzai warned that his country would fall into bloody chaos if foreign troops withdraw too quickly, in an interview with Canadian media.


"Afghanistan will fall back into anarchy," he told the daily Globe and Mail, fearing a withdrawal of Canadian troops in February 2009, their current mandate.

WASHINGTON: Iraq and the United States agreed to set up a joint commission to examine security of US government officials in Iraq following a deadly shooting involving private security firm, the State Department said Wednesday.
