This was recorded in St. Petersburg and recently broadcast on TV. I guess because nobody got killed it was all fun and games for him, but I bet the cops wouldn't have been so accommodating to him if people were laying about all smashed up to bits or whatnot. The guy, apparently, wasn't drunk, but obviously was high.

A British citizen was charged yesterday with war crimes in the Balkans 16 years ago and faces trial in Belgrade for allegedly taking part in the murder of at least 200 Croatian prisoners by Serbian firing squads. Milorad Pejic, a Croatian Serb from the Croatian border town of Vukovar, lived in Corby in Northamptonshire for 10 years until last month and obtained a British passport. He is accused of involvement in one of the worst single atrocities of the Balkan wars - the killing of more than 200 people at a pig farm outside Vukovar after the Croatian town fell to besieging Serbian forces in November 1991.

Alitalia's board will hold an emergency meeting as Italy's national carrier edges closer to bankruptcy after Air France-KLM broke off talks to buy it. The meeting will be held later Thursday. Italy's Stock Exchange says it suspended the company's shares after Air France-KLM quit talks with Italian unions and Alitalia's chairman Maurizio Prato resigned. The Franco-Dutch carrier had said new proposals by unions would not allow it to quickly return Alitalia to profitability. Air France-KLM's offer values the airline at $216 million and is conditional on union approval.

The Taliban has said two attacks on Dutch forces in Afghanistan were in retaliation for an anti-Islamic film by a Dutch politician, the SITE Intelligence Group said on Tuesday. In a communique posted on Web sites used by militants dated April 1, the Taliban said its Shura Council Leadership announced reprisal operations against Dutch forces because "one of the members of the Dutch parliament produced a film that hurts Islam, and he published it with bad intentions". President Bush starts a weeklong trip to Eastern Europe Monday, still popular in the region but under pressure because of Russia's efforts to regain influence and a U.S. failure to deliver on some commitments. Georgian President Mikhail Saakashvili summed up the attitude of many Eastern Europeans at an Oval Office meeting this month when he gushed over Mr. Bush's support for their political and economic development."What you've done for all over the region will be remembered greatly, and will be remembered as absolutely revolutionary change...giving chances to a people who never thought about having those opportunities and chances before," he said.

Self-help manual "If You Want Closure in Your Relationship, Start With Your Legs" won this year's oddest book title competition, The Bookseller trade magazine said on Friday. The book took an impressive one-third of the 8,500 votes cast online in The Bookseller's 30th annual competition. Runner up "I was Tortured By the Pygmy Love Queen", the story of a fictitious World War Two pilot forced to bale out over the jungle, polled a distant 20 percent. "'If You Want Closure', makes redundant an entire genre of self-help tomes. So effective is the title that you don't even need to read the book itself," said the magazine's deputy editor Joel Rickett.

Carla Bruni-Sarkozy, French President Nicolas Sarkozy's new wife, dominated the British press on Thursday, drawing comparisons to Princess Diana and Jackie Kennedy. The former Italian supermodel was pictured on the front page of nearly every major British paper, shown wearing an elegant grey Christian Dior outfit with matching beret. Sarkozy's visit, his rare address to both Houses of Parliament and an announcement that France will increase its troop numbers in Afghanistan were, meanwhile, almost reduced to an afterthought.

The prospect of demonstrations throughout the 85,000-mile Olympic torch relay route leading to the Beijing games loomed Tuesday, a day after protesters of China's human rights policies disrupted the solemn flame-lighting ceremony. Forecasts of clouds and rain had been considered the main threat to the pomp-filled torch-lighting. But it was the protesters who turned the joyful bow to the Olympics' roots into a political statement about China's crackdown in Tibet and other rights issues. Three men advocating press freedom evaded massive security and ran onto the field at the ceremony in Ancient Olympia before they were seized by police.

Eighteen Ukrainian sailors were feared dead Monday after they were trapped underwater in their capsized tugboat in Hong Kong for nearly 40 hours amid strong currents, a salvage company said. "Their chances for survival are very slim," spokesman Zhang Jianwen of China's Guangzhou Salvage Bureau told The Associated Press in a phone interview. Divers were searching for bodies, and a Chinese salvage boat was stabilizing the Ukrainian tugboat and preparing it for a move from its current depth of 115 feet to shallower waters to ease rescue efforts, Zhang said. Strong currents were hindering those efforts, government spokeswoman Heidi Liu said.
