Held Kashmir tense over killing of youth by Indian forces

NEW DELHI: The held Kashmir remained tense on Sunday after the killing of a youth on Friday in Nowhatta area of held Srinagar by the Indian forces. Large number of people staged demonstrations in the old areas of held Srinagar, including Nowhatta, Rainawari, Khanyar, Nawab Bazaar, Habbakadal, Kanikadal, Fatehkadal and Safakadal, despite restrictions imposed by the authorities.
The commercial centres remained closed and traffic was off the roads. Hundreds of security personnel were deployed to prevent people from staging protests. Meanwhile, Omar Abdullah, Chief Minister of Occupied Kashmir held a meeting to review the situation.
The Hurriyat leaders, including APHC Chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, have been put under house arrest. Peopleís Democratic Party, the second largest party emerging after the so-called state elections last year has demanded withdrawal of black laws from the state.
