A top NATO official says more helicopters, surveillance aircraft, unmanned aerial vehicles and other equipment is needed in Afghanistan. U.S. Gen. Bantz J. Craddock, NATO’s Supreme Allied Commander of Europe, also wants national authorities to reduce or drop restrictions on how and where troops from their countries can be used in NATO’s Afghanistan mission.
He says the key to success in the war-ravaged country is not winning by military means and that the focus must instead be on development and governance.
Craddock spoke on the sidelines of an annual security conference at the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe.
End.
