President Pervez Musharraf is the head of the state and the United States will continue to deal with him, US State Department Deputy Assistant Secretary Donald Camp said during a meeting of the Pak-American Congress in New York.
According to Geo News, Camp said US President George W Bush had also met with Pakistani Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani in Egypt and that the US would also deal with him.
Camp denied the US was against the reinstatement of the sacked judges in Pakistan saying the Pakistani parliament and the people of Pakistan had to make decisions on the issue themselves. He ruled out the possibility of a war between Afghanistan and Pakistan.
According to the channel, Camp said Pakistan was trying its best to control terrorism and insurgency on its Western borders, and that the US was very serious in establishing reconstruction zones in Tribal Areas. A bill in this regard would be tabled in the US Congress “very soon”, he said.
He said the present US administration was trying to ensure US aid to Pakistan would continue during the next set-up in Washington, and that he hoped ties between the two countries would remain friendly in future.
